Gourmet Popcorn And The Changing Times

December 30th, 2011

Everybody loves popcorn. Everyone who loves watching movies also loves eating popcorn. In fact, some movie lovers are actually popcorn lovers, too. In fact, we can consider popcorn and movies to be two of the best inventions of the human race. But recently, there has been a shift in our viewing experience. More and more people are switching their “movie theatre dates” to “DVD at home date”. This domestication of our viewing habits has also led to the domestication of our popcorn experience, thus switching our attention to the gourmet popcorn frenzy. There has been a growing interest for gourmet popcorn because it fits the trend of “personalization” in the younger generations. People nowadays love things that are personalized, original, or something that fits their mood or style. Popcorn is never out of style because we can reinvent it however we want.

Cheese. Caramel. Barbecue. Maple. Butter. Plain salted. These are just some of the most common flavors that people love in popcorns. But over the years, we have learned how to trick our taste buds by mixing different flavors from all over the world. We have learned to use different spices from every culture to make our personal favorites. In the flavored popcorn arena, we can combine all the flavors we want. We can do sweet and spicy by mixing cayenne pepper and honey or maple. We can use wasabi for the Japanese taste, or curry for the Indian taste, or parmesan cheese and bacon bits for the Italian taste. Name it, you can do it with your popcorn. The limit is your imagination. So next time you want to do a DVD marathon, try making your own popcorn with a twist.
