YES for the Dogs

My husband and I are veterinarians and are considered dog experts. We and my brother, along with 98 Tucson veterinary animal experts, are urging you to vote Yes for the Dog Protection Act, and here’s why. All dogs deserve a basic minimum level of care, which they are not getting at the racetrack.

All dogs deserve decent food, not the raw flesh of diseased animals, full of worms and bacteria, that is fed to them now on the track. Veterinarians know this is unhealthy, and this act would prevent it.

All dogs deserve a little bit of clean space to live in. It’s not right to cram over 500 of them into tiny, hot, smelly cages for 23 hours a day, year after year. Veterinarians know this is unhealthy and unfair, and this act would improve it.

All dogs deserve to live without being repeatedly injected with dangerous drugs. The female dogs on the track are kept on damaging steroids their entire racing careers. Again, veterinarians know this is unhealthy, but the dog owners don’t care about cancer and other disease because the dogs are disposable and rarely last on the more than 5 years.

These dogs literally give their lives for the entertainment and enrichment of few people, and they deserve better treatment. They make millions of dollars for their owners, and their owners should do the right things for them. This act provides for just a bare minimum of care that any dog deserves – decent food, a little bit of space, and freedom from dangerous drugs.

Please help us protect the dogs that depend on us, help us keep them safe from abuse and exploitation. Please vote YES for the Dog Protection Act.
